Getting Started

Where To Go?
In general the easiest islands to get to (which usually means least expensive) are Cancun, Jamaica, the Bahamas, and the Dominican Republic. If you're flying out of New York City, you can find good flights to any island. If you're flying out of Lubbock, you are in for a long day both ways.

Here's a list of the most convenient islands to fly to and approximate flight times:

  Bahamas Jamaica Punta Cana Cancun
Atlanta 2.0 2.7 3.5 2.5
Baltimore 4.3 3.0 3.5 3.5
Boston 5.5 3.7 7.0 4.5
Chicago 5.0 3.0 5.0 3.5
Houston 5.3 3.3 5.5 2.2
Los Angeles 7.5 5.5 10.5 5.5
Miami 1.0 1.5 2.5 1.7
New York 3.0 3.3 3.8 3.5
Philadelphia 2.8 3.3 3.5 3.0

Does this mean I shouldn't consider the other islands? No! But, you need at least 6 nights and preferably more if you have longer travel days. As they say, in the simply beautiful island of St Lucia, "It takes a little longer to get to Heaven".

If you're wondering what flight schedules may look like to the islands you're interested in, just go to our homepage, put your dates in and check it out. If you have any problems or questions, please call

How Long?
One answer definitely can't fit all here. We always like to see you take a full week or 7 nights if possible (Sunday to Sunday is the most typical). The day of arrival is usually taken up by travel and getting unpacked and finding your way around. The day you leave is definitely not a fun day (back to the real world). With a 7 night stay that leaves you with 5 full days to have fun and relax. If you can afford the time and money to stay longer, DO IT. Especially stay as long as you can, if you're celebrating your honeymoon, anniversary, or any other special occasion. No matter which island you choose, you'll always meet a nice European couple that's been there for 1 week and only has 2 weeks left. If you simply can't afford the time or money to stay a week, stretch it as far as you can and chose one of the islands that's the easiest to get to.

What to Do?
Many times clients have certain items or features that they just have to have. These things often determine the answer to the question, "Where to Go?" A vacation anywhere in the Caribbean is going to be filled with sunshine, beautiful clear water, romantic scenery, beaches, and time to rest and relax. Find below a list of activities or features that are popular and a list of islands that are known for those activities or features.

This is a very short abbreviated guide. The Caribbean Tourism Organization does a much more thorough job with island features and activities. Check them out at www.doitcaribbean.com. You’ll find information on festivals, sailing, history, eco-tourism, fishing and plenty more. If you’re in danger of information overload, please don’t hesitate to call one of our agents.

How Much?
This is always the hardest question to answer. Price depends on:
  • When?
  • From where?
  • To where?
  • Resort?
  • Room type?
  • Coach or first class?
  • Jet fuel prices?
  • Whether the Dow is down?
  • And many more factors.
But we are trying to help you get started, right? Well let’s try to oversimplify everything.
   1. You’re traveling Monday to Sunday, departing October 6th, 2008 and staying 6 nights and 7 days.
   2. You’re booking your package today, 18th of August, 2008.

Assuming the 2 conditions above, listed below are some sample rates. Rates are total for 2 persons, including roundtrip airport/resort transfers, 6 nights and 7 day hotel accommodations, tips, taxes, and all the inclusions of the resort. Airfare is not included. $500 per person or $1000 total for two is a good ballpark number to use when you're getting started.

Note: If you haven't tried our new check rates feature at the left, please do. All you have to do is enter a destination and dates. You will get instant resort pricing. If you want to include air, just put your departure city in, and you can check air rates too.

Tip: When you're just getting started, we recommend you concentrate on the resort and island first. Then you can check to make sure the air schedules and fares agree with you. This will save you time, and make it easier for you to get started without having information overload.

Tip: Airfares are not available until 330 days prior. If you are planning ahead more than  11months, you can still find resort rates, but not rates with air. If you want a ballpark rate, just put in dates within 11 months. Then you'll have, at least, an estimate.of the air cost.
